Canmore’s Best Yearly Events
Canmore has a reputation to uphold for being one of the most social towns in North America and especially in the Canadian Rockies. As well as the usual list of events that squueze the Canmore calendar, there are some extra special yearly events that get locals, tourists and Mountain Men equally excited. Here is a list of my three favourite events in Canmore.
Rocky Mountain Ski Marathon: How could a mountain man resist the pull of a good old-fashioned manly mountain competition..for men and women. One reason why this is such a good event is because it is the traditional kick off to the winter festival, meaning everyone is in party mode. Hundreds of competitors brave the weather to try and beat Mountain Man in a 10-km or 30km course. Every year hundreds of competitors succeed. To see snow competition at its best or little jack rabbit skiiers beating me badly, the Rocky Mountain Ski Marathon can’t be beaten.
Canada Day: There really is no need to tell you the date (July 1st) of the worlds greatest celebration, according to Mountain Man. It´s like St. Patricks Day for the Irish but with more pancakes. Canmore hosts one of the greatest celebrations with a mixture of locals and visitors. It is a family affair too with a great parade down Main Street with floats, bands, Mounties, Shriners and others that move along towards the majestic backdrop of Mount Rundle. Events kick off early with a pancake breakfast so make sure you’re not late. Also make sure you stick around (or poke you head out of the bar) for the fireworks show at dusk.
The Festival Of Eagles: For the nature lovers amongst you, the Festival of Eagles in October simply can’t be missed. Every year golden eagles fly overhead and the whole town of Canmore keep their faces to the skies. A great time to be a thief or an animal lover. It is a long journey for these incredible birds and Canmore is right in the middle of their epic journey.
