Banff National Park, Alberta
My first piece of advice would be to buy an umbrella to avoid getting wet but this aside; there is no shortage of things to do in the towns of the Canadian Rockies when the weather isn’t perfect. Though snow is far more common than rain, it does happen. Most people tend to keep outdoors as much as possible in Banff taking advantage of the beautiful weather so when a rainy day falls, it is almost a relief to take a rest from hikes and trips.
The Lux Cinema costs only $10 or only $7 for a matinee. Sometimes when on holidays, it is great to escape reality for 2 hours into the magic of a movie theatre. Usually when you leave the building, it is back to regular life but when you make you make your way back onto Bear Street, the beauty of Banff awaits afresh.
You name it and they’ve got it. Whether you do actually want to buy an umbrella, some skis for the upcoming winter or just buy a stupid amount of chocolate for the cinema in one of the candy stores, Banff has the answer. Check out our Shopping Section for a full list of all of Banff’s shops.
More than just a massive hotel, this is a massive hotel with tons of facilities and things to do. Packed full of shops, it also has a great spa that you can spend the day relaxing in. There is also a cool bowling alley to test your skill against friends and competitive family members.
Banff Public Library
This may not be the most usual of choices but if you really fancy recharging the batteries, reading a newspaper or just hooking up to one of the cheapest internet connections in town, this is a lovely place to relax.
The best part of all is that the rain never stays for long. Either the sun will be just around the corner or the snow is going to fall hard soon clearing the way for ski season. There are so many beauties around the Canadian Rockies such as Lake Louise and Jasper that the weather just won’t be able to change your outlook on this gorgeous place.
