Though sometimes it feels like you are a million miles away from any big cities when you vacation in the Canadian Rockies, the fact is Calgary is only an hour’s drive from Banff. Jasper is a relatively short hop to Edmonton also. There is no reason why you can’t pop into the ‘big smoke’ for a day visit. What better reason than to watch the usually inconsistent but always entertaining Calgary Flames play at the Saddledome Stadium. Better again throw in a half days dog sledding on your way to Calgary to really make you feel like you are in the Rockies.

The atmosphere inside the stadium is electric with thousands of heated sports fan chilling out by the ice watching angry players faces squashed up against the glass. There are few things more enjoyable than watching live sports with a cold beer in your hand.
