Mountain Shadow Trail

The Mountain Shadow Trail offers travellers a unique opportunity to enjoy subalpine wilderness along the front ranges of the great Canadian Rockies.  With comfortable lodge or cabin accommodations conveniently situated along the Mountain Shadow Trail, novice backcountry enthusiasts can participate in a wide variety of year-round activities.

Trail Environment

The Mountain Shadow Trail is surrounded by the natural beauty of the front ranges of the Canadian Rocky Mountains.  The trail traverses babbling brooks and gently rolling hills in a sub-alpine environment, complete with coniferous and deciduous forests and open, grassy meadows.  The regions' wildflowers and remote setting  attracts a variety of forest songbirds and wildlife.

Activities

The activities offered by commercial operators on the Mountain Shadow Trail include mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, dog sledding and cross-country skiing.

All of these activities can be experienced on-your-own or with experienced naturalist guides, with lodge or cabin accommodations available at the south trailhead (Black Cat Guest Ranch), at the half-way point (West Range) and after the north trailhead (Rocky Mountain Escape).
