Canmore’s Rocky Mountain Ski Lodge – a quaint Banff alternative

CANMORE, Alberta – I find myself truly lucky to have friends who travel a lot and can recommend great places to stay. This was surely the case when I was on assignment in the Canadian Rockies and needed to find an apartment where I could set up digs that would feel like home, no matter how temporary.

The Rocky Mountain Ski Lodge in Canmore, Alberta was where I landed, thanks to Mary and Sam, two of my best friends and travel buddies, who had stayed in a two bedroom apartment there some months ago. I rented a one bedroom with a loft, and was in Rocky Mountain heaven the minute I laid eyes on it.

There I was, surrounded by the majestic Canadian Rockies, and only a five minute drive from downtown Canmore and only fifteen minutes from downtown Banff!

The apartment was much more than what I expected, with a full kitchen, a gas fireplace that made the evenings super cozy, incredible views from every window, and plenty of room for visitors. Upstairs in the loft there were two double beds, which gave my friends their privacy while I enjoyed my master bedroom on the main level. Add to this WiFi, cable TV, and voice mail, and I could have stayed there forever!

What was also great about staying at the Rocky Mountain Ski Lodge was that I paid a lot less than if I had stayed in Banff proper. These affordable lodgings gave me the ability to live comfortably and for a longer period of time than is my usual stay in the Canadian Rockies.

There are many options for staying at the Rocky Mountain Ski Lodge. You can rent one or two bedroom apartments, or a one bedroom with a loft like I did. You can also rent a standard room with options such as one queen size bed, or a queen bed with a kitchen, or two double beds, or two double beds with a kitchen. Room and apartment rates are incredibly reasonable, and they even offer “Ski and Stay” packages to make your vacation more affordable.

With fantastic amenities such as a Jacuzzi and sauna, picnic and barbecue areas, a playground for the kids, free laundry, free parking, bicycle storage rooms, and more, you are hard pressed to find another place to comfortably and affordably hang your hat when staying in the Canadian Rockies.
