Join us on a Natural History tour of DISCOVERY into Rat's Nest Cave: a wild, undeveloped cave with no artificial lights, boardwalks or handrails under GROTTO MOUNTAIN near CANMORE, ALBERTA, CANADA!

During the Pleistocene Glaciations of the past 1.6 million years, the dynamic melt waters of the ancient glaciers cleaved and carved the limestone rock in the Bow Valley to create Rats Nest Cave: a 4-km long cave system. In present day, the energetic waters have receded (as in the past) leaving behind their traces of glacial deposits, fossil animal bones, pools of sparkling clear water and glistening calcite formations, all for you to discover on our cave tours. As you hike up to the cave entrance through the pine forest, you will look down on the Bow River as it flows along the impressive glacial valley that once contained the cave-forming glaciers.
The adventure begins with a 20-30 minute hike up a mountain trail to the entrance. Knowledgeable guides take you on a Natural History tour of this exciting underground world - etched and sculptured over hundreds of thousands of years - through twisting passages and chambers of stalactites & stalagmites, animal bones and fossils.

Canmore Caverns Ltd is a registered business in the Town of Canmore, Alberta, Canada and a current member of Tourism Canmore, and Banff/Lake Louise Tourism. It was incorporated in 1985 to provide "wild cave tours" in Rat's Nest Cave, guiding clients with no previous experience into the cave in its natural undeveloped setting and interpreting its natural history and ecological importance.

Canmore Caverns Ltd provides premium cave tours primarily to the tourist market in Canmore, Banff, Lake Louise and Alberta. Our client base includes many adventure enthusiasts from all over Canada, North America and Europe. Our tours are included in many outdoor education programs of numerous colleges and universities in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and elsewhere in Canada. We also offer team building, corporate experiences and caving courses.

We are associated with ACRO - the Alberta Cave Rescue Organization - a dedicated group of volunteers who provide training in the latest techniques for safe and expedient cave rescue, and with the Alberta Speleological Society (ASS), the provincial caving association.
